Pilates
Joseph Pilates was the creator and promoter of the Pilates method. Pilates is a series of movements that are aimed to strengthen the core, correct posture and add mobility to the body. Although the movements may look simple they take a lot of precision to perform.
You are only as young as your spince is flexible.
For many reasons… They say “sitting is the new smoking”. Backed up by a series of research, it has been found that sitting for hours is detrimental for the human body; poor body posture that leads to impaired lung efficiency, poor oxygenation of the brain and body, compromised circulation, stiffness in back and neck muscles, just to name a few. On top, our busy lifestyles and often lack of engagement into our own well being takes us to put physical activity as the last item of our to-do list. Pilates’ benefits are numerous, and when it comes to sitting for long hours it is one of the most comprehensive workouts to counterbalance the problem:
Builds Core Stability
Increasing muscle strength, particulary the abdominals, back muscles, hips and buttocks
Mind-Body Awareness
When required to think of how you are moving you build body awareness, this requires concentration and therefore having little room to wander your mind
Stress relief
Pilates helps the production of endorphins, a.k.a happy hormones. It reduces stress, anxiety and improves mood, motivation and achievement.
Balanced Body
Builds a balanced body improving mobility of your spine and the whole musculoskeletal system
Challenging
You will discover, feel and strengthen muscles you didn’t know you have. Pilates is also challenging for the mind as it requires concentration and precision to perform
Body posture
One or the first changes you will notice after starting a Pilates routine is an improved body posture.
Class types
Private sessions
(in person and online)
They are designed to meet your personal needs and goals, from building muscle strength, improve posture, flexibility and lessen muscle tension or simply staying active. Being a very precise discipline, one-on-one pilates sessions bring a number of benefits as there is more engagement from the trainer to the clients’ specific areas of improvement.
Semi-private sessions (duets)
Do you like working out with your bestie or your partner? Duets are a great way to keep yourself motivated while working out with your fitness buddy! While not all eyes are on you, it is still a really effective way to have a semi-taylormade program and hands on adjustment.
Group Reformer
Reformer machines work with resistance springs that will help build up strength and lengthen muscles. The classes consist of a series of exercises each targeting a specific group of muscles. Control, flow, precision and breathing are just some of the Pilates principles which are put in place throughout each exercise. Please note that in order to join our group classes, all new participants need to complete our Intro-pack (two private sessions plus one group). The Intro-pack is designed to teach how to operate the reformer machine individually in a health and safety manner, as well as to review the Pilates principles and cover some of the most iconic reformer Pilates exercises, to be able to join our group classes with full confidence.
How to book your Intro-Pack:
*Please note that order is important, first you need to complete the private sessions, and then the group class at the end.
Group mat (in studio and online)
Oh the good’ol mighty mat! Who doesn’t love a good strenuous mat workout? While we respect a mat pilates class performed in its purest just by using one’s own body weight, we also love spicing up our classes with different props every so often.
